Behavioral Health Services at Stormont-Vail West provides the highest level of behavioral health services to patients of all ages in a comfortable and safe therapeutic setting. Inpatient and outpatient services are available for children, adolescents and adults who need psychiatric intervention.
Our programs are designed to assist those in crisis situations or psychiatric emergencies. Our psychiatrists, social workers, therapists and nursing staff work together to develop each patient's plan of care. Also vital to our patient programs is the continuity of care with family members, referral sources and community resources.
The behavioral health team at Stormont-Vail West treats the “whole” person and recognizes that the relationships between patients and their families, friends, peers and the community are intrinsic components to healthy living.

Recognizing and treating behavioral disorders at an early stage is critical to maintaining the health of our patients. Our psychiatrists have been trained in various behavioral health care settings. Patients will benefit from our physicians’ combined experience in the areas of child, adolescent and adult psychiatry.
Admissions
Behavioral Health Services at Stormont-Vail West operates 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week at 3707 S.W. 6th Ave., Topeka. Preceding patient admission, an assessment is performed to determine the appropriate level of care for each patient and his or her specific program needs.

Substance Abuse Program NEW PROGRAM!
The Substance Abuse program at Stormont-Vail West is designed to treat adults suffering from substance abuse, and if needed, address contributing issues such as depression, anxiety or other mental-health concerns. Caring experts will encourage and guide you through the process of overcoming your addiction. The program can help you to explore your substance abuse history, draw conclusions about consequences, and the desire and need for treatment.

Child and Adolescent Inpatient Program
The Child and Adolescent Inpatient Program is a short-term crisis stabilization program that uses therapeutic interventions, groups and activities. The program focuses on stabilizing the patient, prioritizing the patient's needs, managing medication protocol, and through discharge planning setting the patient on a course of outpatient therapy. Group therapies includes goals, issues, medication, music, academic, fitness and psycho-educational. This program accepts individuals up to age 17 who meet admission criteria.
Adult Inpatient Program
This program focuses on acute, short-term crisis stabilization using psycho-educational groups and activities. The program includes individualized treatment planning with a multi-disciplinary approach, discharge planning and continuity of care with community providers. Access is limited to adult voluntary admissions over the age of 18 who meet admission criteria.

Adult Partial Hospital Program
This programs offers intensive outpatient intervention in a structured, supportive day setting Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for adults with psychiatric illness. This intense, short-term program gives patients the skills to transition back to healthier functioning. Individuals must have a sufficient level of cognitive ability to benefit from the therapeutic program. An on-site psychiatrist provides assessment and ongoing supervision of the treatment process. A separate entrance allows for direct, personal access.
Senior Diagnostic and Treatment Center at Stormont-Vail HealthCare
This service is housed on 6-West in the South Tower of Topeka's Stormont-Vail HealthCare, 1500 S.W. 10th Ave. Our 16-bed unit provides psychiatric assessment, treatment and discharge planning for patients 60 years of age and older. The average length of stay is seven to 10 days. Our multi-disciplinary treatment approach includes a comprehensive assessment with a focus on safe and appropriate after-care services.
