Meet the Physicians
Curtis A. Baum, M.D.
A native of the Kansas City area, Dr. Baum attended the University of Kansas graduating in 1979 with honors. Dr. Baum received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1983. He completed his internship, residency and fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Dr. Baum is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology.
Dr. Baum joined the Cotton-O'Neil Clinic in 1988 and has been involved in practice governance for many years. Currently he serves as the medical director of the Digestive Health Center. In addition, he is a member of the Stormont-Vail Foundation Board of Directors, the Stormont-Vail Health Plan Management Committee and the Physician's Advisory Committee. Dr. Baum serves on the community advisory board of U.S. Bank and is a member of the board of directors of the University of Kansas Medical Center Alumnae Association.
Dr. Baum is married and has three children. He resides in Lawrence and is an avid University of Kansas sports enthusiast. His clinical interests are administrative medicine and inflammatory bowel disease.
Robert W. Braun, M.D.
Dr. Braun received his medical degree in 1970 at the University of Missouri Columbia. He completed his internship, residency and fellowship at the University of Cincinnati - Cincinnati General Hospital. Dr. Braun is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology.
From 1974 to 1976, he served in the U.S. Army, stationed at Ft. Riley. Dr. Braun joined the Cotton-O'Neil Clinic in 1977 and has been involved in practice governance for many years. He served as Stormont-Vail Medical Staff President in 1986/1987. Currently he is a member of the Stormont-Vail Health Care Physicians Advisory Committee. Dr. Braun is active in community affairs including Boy Scouts of America and has served on the Williamsport Township Board for over two decades.
Dr. Braun is married and has seven children. He resides in rural Shawnee County. His clinical interests include liver disease and diagnostic/therapeutic biliary endoscopy (ERCP).
Robert L. Ricci, M.D.
Dr. Robert Ricci grew up in the Kansas City area and graduated in 1972 from the University of Kansas with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. He received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. Dr. Ricci completed his internship, residency and fellowship at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Dr. Ricci is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology.
Dr. Ricci joined the Cotton-O'Neil Clinic in 1980. He has served on numerous committees at the Cotton-O'Neil Clinic as well as Stormont-Vail and St. Francis. In addition to being a consultative gastroenterologist, Dr. Ricci maintains a busy internal medicine practice.
Dr. Ricci is married and has four children. Dr. Ricci lives in Topeka and is an avid golfer and University of Kansas sports enthusiast. His clinical interests are general internal medicine and diagnostic/therapeutic biliary endoscopy (ERCP).
Brent E. Roeder, M.D.
A native of Topeka, Kansas, Dr. Roeder received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, Kansas City, in 1999. He completed an internal medicine residency at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn., in 2002. He completed a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics, Madison, Wis., in 2005. Dr. Roeder received additional training in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound from the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics, Madison, Wis., in 2005.
Dr. Roeder is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. His clinical interests include endoscopic ultrasound and colorectal cancer. Dr. Roeder is married and has three children.
Thomas C. Welton
Dr. Thomas Welton received his undergraduate degree in biology in 1983 from the University of Kansas. He earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1988. He completed his internship, residency and fellowship at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City. Dr. Welton is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology.
Dr. Welton joined the Cotton-O'Neil Clinic in 1993. He is involved in coaching youth sports teams. Dr. Welton is married with six children. He lives in Topeka and is active in his parish and at Hayden High School. Dr. Welton's clinical interests include Helicobacter-induced ulcer disease, chronic liver disease and colon cancer prevention.
Patrick L. Schroeder, M.D.
Dr. Patrick Schroeder graduated from Kansas State University with a B.S. in business administration in 1983. The following year he received a B.S. in pharmacy (with distinction) from the University of Kansas. Dr. Schroeder received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1989. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center and then a GI fellowship at the University of Alabama - Birmingham. Dr. Schroeder is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology.
Dr. Schroeder is an Osage City, Kansas native. He joined the Cotton-O'Neil Clinic in 2001. Prior to joining Cotton-O'Neil Clinic, Dr. Schroeder practiced gastroenterology in Kearney, Nebraska.
Dr. Schroeder is married and has six children. He lives in Topeka and is an avid Kansas State University sports enthusiast. His clinical interests include colorectal disease, chronic liver disease and pancreatic illness.
