Basic Fetal Monitoring

Aug. 5 -- 8 a.m. - Noon

This program is designed for those with less than six months fetal monitoring experience. It is an introductory course that focuses on electronic fetal monitoring auscultation, fetal heart changes, and basic fetal monitor components. Will also discuss documentation.


Advanced Patient Management

Aug. 5, 12, 19, 26 and Sept. 2 -- 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Instructor: Multi-faculty.
Contact Hours: 8.0 RN, LPN, EMS, RT per day
Fee: $80 per day -- Centennial A
These sessions will focus on systems and disorders typically present in critically ill patients.

Labor Support Techniques for Nurses: Alternative and
Innovative Modalities

Aug. 7 -- 1 to 5 p.m.

This class consists of two components. The first component covers innovative labor support modalities emphasizing the impact labor nurses have on their patient's birth experience and how that experience affects breastfeeding, the health of the infant, and the mother’s emotional health. We will cover innovative labor support techniques as well as review familiar techniques.

The second component covers shoulder dystocia emergencies. We will cover the etiology of shoulder dystocia and discuss appropriate nursing interventions. Real-life case scenarios from a certified nurse midwife will be presented and discussed.


Moderate Sedation

The Kansas State Board of Nursing recommends advanced education on levels of sedation and effects of pharmacologic agents prior to administering Moderate (Conscious) Sedation. This class covers topics such as common medications utilized for adult and pediatric patients, risks involved, and patient monitoring guidelines.


Nursing Grand Rounds provide staff nurses a forum to share clinical expertise and the best of nursing practice.

Managing Asthma in the Pediatric Population

Aug. 19 -- 11 to 11:50 a.m. or 12:10 to 1 p.m.

The prevalence of asthma has increased dramatically in recent years. This will provide an overview of the essential components of pediatric asthma management and the nurse's role in promoting positive care outcomes.


Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Initial Certification

Aug. 22 -- 8 to 11:30 a.m.
Must attend both days.
