Hello Baby I Adjustments and Goals

This class will cover the common discomforts of pregnancy, the physical and emotional adjustments as well as important information on nutrition and exercise. Fathers and other support people will have an opportunity to wear the empathy belly. A pregnancy, birth and postpartum plan for classes and other resources will be discussed.

This class will include many important safety and health concerns about having a newborn. The decision about infant feeding will be introduced as well as the guidelines for car seat safety and choosing a child care provider or babysitter. What to think about when choosing a doctor for your baby and when to call them will be discussed. A check list of important supplies and how to use them is included in this class.

Hello Baby III Over the Years...Changes in Childbirth and Childcare...A Class for Parents and Grandparents
- Pregnancy changes: weight gain, nutrition, sonograms, testing
- Labor and Delivery- Support and anesthesia, length of stay
- Infant Feeding- Why no water, why breastfeed, and how to support
- Guidelines for sleep
- Developmental expectations- sleep, solid foods, and potty training
This class is designed to update grandparents on the changes that have happened since they had their children. Parents can attend to get information to share with grandparents that are unable to be here for the class. Grandparents often ask, “Why have baby’s lay on their backs for sleep? You were potty trained at a year! We gave you cereal when you were two weeks old! “ and many other questions will be discussed.

Childbirth Preparation for Expectant Parents
Learn breathing and relaxation skills plus information is provided on other pain control measures. Included is information on late pregnancy, labor and birth, early parenting experience and a tour of The Birthplace. Classes are taught by experienced educators. These classes are tailored to the adult learner with plenty of opportunity for individuals and couples to explore their own personal educational needs. Dress comfortably and bring two pillows.

Childbirth Preparation for New Parents One-Day Class
This one-day class is ideal for pregnant women and their support people who have scheduling conflicts or need to travel a distance for class. The same material that is covered in a series of classes will be covered in one-day. Participants will bring a sack lunch and meet over lunch to discuss parenting adjustments. Bring two pillows to be more comfortable as you are practicing breathing and relaxation exercises. Videos will enhance learning and a review of the labor process, coping techniques, cesearean births, and epidurals will be completed. As time permits baby care issues will be discussed. Included in the baby care discussion will be circumcision, bathing, feeding issues, cord care, and car seats. Those participants wanting more detailed information on baby care are encouraged to attend the Hello Baby classes. Class will end with a tour of The Birthplace.

Whether this is your first cesarean section or you are having a repeat cesarean section, your delivery is an event we would like to help you prepare for. You will find out what to expect from admission to dismissal. We will watch films, show slides, have open discussion, practice breathing and relaxation techniques and tour The Birthplace.

Childbirth Preparation for Teen or Young Adult
Classes are designed for teens, young adults and their support people. Included are discussions about pregnancy, labor and parenting, as well as explore ways to cope and deal with labor. Information to assist new parents to care for and enrich their baby's early years is provided. A tour of The Birthplace is included. The class series lasts five weeks. Dress comfortably and bring two pillows.

Healthy Bodies/Healthy Babies
A prenatal and postpartum exercise class for pregnant women and new moms. Participants learn stretching and conditioning exercises that will help them feel better, have a healthy pregnancy and get back into shape. A doctor's permission slip is required before participation. Women may attend when they would like with no pre-registration necessary.

Breastfeeding Basics
This informal introduction to breastfeeding provides pregnant women and their families an opportunity to learn all they need to know about breastfeeding before their babies are born. Classes are designed to help families prepare for the breastfeeding experience by providing information on how breastfeeding works, how to get started, problems that may arise and how to find breastfeeding support services in your area.

Pumping for your Baby
Designed for women planning to work outside of the home or for those who are breastfeeding but want the flexibility to be away from their baby at times. This class will provide information and options for expressing milk from the breast. We'll address breast pumps and how to choose one, pumping techniques, milk storage and maintaining adequate milk production. For the mom working outside of the home, we also will explore issues of time management, negotiating with employers and relationships with co-workers. We'll also discuss the very important role childcare providers play in breastfeeding success and methods of feeding breastmilk to infants. Babies welcome, pre-registration not required.

Infant and Child CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation)
Instructors certified by the American Red Cross • Co-sponsored by Children's Services at Stormont-Vail and the American Red Cross, this class offers parents or any person who spends time around infants and children an opportunity to learn life-saving CPR techniques. Included in the small, hands-on classes is plenty of time for practice. You also will learn basic first-aid and safety measures along with what to do if a child is choking.

This sibling preparation class includes a tour of The Birthplace and provides structured activities to help young children verbalize their concerns and expectations about when "the new baby comes." This class is for young children who will soon be big brothers or big sisters and their parents.

Please bring a small picture of big brother/sister-to-be to class.
