Stormont-Vail HealthCare is partnering with the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library in the Big Read program. The program is a community-wide reading of great literature with the National Endowment for the Arts and Art Midwest.
The book selected this year is “To Kill a Mockingbird,” by Harper Lee. The dual plot lines of the book have twobroad themes: tolerance and justice.
Several book-related programs are also scheduled at the public library and at the Brown v. Board of Education National Historic site during February. More information about the Big Read initiative is available at www.tscpl.org/bigread.
Paperback copies of the book are available for free for staff and volunteers in the Stormont-Vail Health Sciences Library in the lower level of the Pozez Education Center. A limited number of study guides and an audio overvieware also available. Free copies of the book can also be obtained at the public library, which is located just south of Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center. Several copies have also been placed on the patient reading cart.
When readers are done with the book they are asked to pass the book along to a friend or return it to the public library so others may enjoy the book as well.
