Stormont-Vail HealthCare employees donate $267,170 to United Way

(Topeka, Dec. 8, 2008) – Stormont-Vail HealthCare employees raised $267,170.34 for the United Way 2008 campaign, an increase of $18,358.19 or 6.9 percent from the previous year, making it the highest amount ever donated by Stormont-Vail in its giving history.

Donations were raised during the Stormont-Vail annual employee United Way campaign in October 2008.

“It is a pleasure to recognize the employees of Stormont-Vail for their generosity and commitment to the United Way campaign. Exceeding our goal shows how much our employees care about the community,” said Maynard Oliverius, president and chief executive officer of Stormont-Vail HealthCare.

Stormont-Vail employees were involved in a number of awareness events during October. The events included a Pie in the Face contest where 14 volunteer administrators, directors, and physicians competed for a pie-in-the-face; a pizza lunch serving Godfather’s Pizza with entertainment from the Topeka West Singers, campaign flyers with the names of employees who contributed to the United Way were displayed in the cafeteria, and a gift basket contest.

The gift basket contest allowed departments to fill a basket with goodies coinciding with a particular theme. Twenty-five baskets were judged by Miriam Krehbiel, president and CEO of the United Way of Greater Topeka. Stormont-Vail employees then made donations for an opportunity to win the baskets.

The Stormont-Vail United Way Committee, under the direction of Bryan Hall, application analyst, organized the events for the United Way campaign 2008.

INVITATION TO MEDIA: Stormont-Vail officials will make a giant check presentation to United Way executives at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 11 at Stormont-Vail HealthCare. If you would like to cover this event, please contact Nancy Burkhardt at (785) 575-5493.
