Stormont-Vail Total Joint Center

A comprehensive program for joint replacement surgery

Imagine restoring the joy of motion and living a life without pain. The Stormont-Vail Total Joint Center is a comprehensive program for joint replacement surgery. Patient education programs, our dedicated team approach, and use of the latest procedures and technology all combine to enhance outcomes.

Education Speeds Recovery

Patient education helps patients understand what to expect, giving them the power to heal better and faster. Each patient and champion are encouraged to attend an education session prior to surgery. Information included in this session will prepare the patient for his or her surgical experience from consultation to surgery and post-operative care. This knowledge offers patients the power and motivation to heal better and faster, fully supported by our dedicated staff.

Teamwork Improves Outcomes

Our specialized team of surgeons and support staff work together to provide compassionate, individualized care. They are dedicated to helping you achieve a fast, full recovery – from your initial consultation, to your surgery, through your final day of physical therapy. The Total Joint Center health care team are experts in managing post-operative joint replacement pain, allowing you to fully participate in activities that promote your recovery. Everyone works together with you to provide individualized care that best meets your needs.

Precision Surgery Enhances Healing

Surgeons can use our computerized Ci System for guidance while performing the latest, minimally invasive procedures.

The first of its kind in Kansas, our state-of-the-art Ci System provides surgeons with computerized guidance for knee joint replacement, assisting with measuring and aligning implants. And utilizing the latest, minimally invasive procedures, surgeons offer patients faster, better healing.

How the Program Works

The Stormont-Vail Total Joint Center is designed and staffed especially for joint replacement patients. Our goal is on ensuring you a positive surgery and a fast return to a life free of joint pain.

If your surgeon declares you a Total Joint Center candidate, your surgery will be scheduled and you will receive a Stormont-Vail Total Joint Center Patient Handbook. You are encouraged to attend an education session/clinic with your champion where you will receive knowledge that will help you recover faster:

  • Tour the Total Joint Center, meet the staff, become familiar with the surgery process and the Total Joint Center philosophies.
  • Learn what to expect from surgery and recovery, and what will be expected from you, the patient.
  • Learn how to best prepare for surgery from pre-operative exercises to setting up your home for your return.
  • Discover ways that your Champion will be able to assist you during and after your experience.

After your surgery and recovery period, a private room in the Total Joint Center, a brand new facility, will be waiting for you. Your stay at the Total Joint Center will be four days long and will include pain management, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and work with your Champion.

What is a “Champion?”

Your Champion is your right hand, your cheerleader and your moral support. Your Champion is someone who can be close by you for a few days after surgery, and be able to check on you at intervals once you are home again. They are there to remind you what you can and cannot do. They are there to make the transition from the hospital to home smoother.

How do I choose my Champion?

Things to consider when choosing your Champion:

  • Should be someone you are comfortable spending time with.
  • Should be someone you have trust in.
  • Should be someone dependable.
  • Should be someone who is aware of your overall health status.
  • Should be familiar with your home, medications, likes and dislikes, and your lifestyle.

We have built our program around the patient and the experiences that patients will have at the Total Joint Center. From pre-operative education to post-operative rehabilitation, the Total Joint Center staff will be with the patient every step of the way, encouraging them to succeed.

The Stormont-Vail Total Joint Center program emphasizes a shortened hospital stay for you and quality orthopedic care. The program is designed to provide you, the patient, with the information and support you need on your joint replacement journey.
