Stormont Vail Duo’s Quick Action Saves Student’s Life
Quick action by two Stormont Vail Health leaders saved a student’s life during a medical emergency on Sept. 28. Carol Perry, Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer, and Amy Kincade, Vice President, Clinical Integration, were at the Topeka Center for Advanced Learning & Careers (TCALC) to participate in a panel with high school students on the topic of career readiness.
After the event was over, a student at TCALC experienced a medical emergency and Carol and Amy immediately provided support to resuscitate the student and saved the student’s life.
The Topeka Public Schools’ Board of Education will honor Carol and Amy with the Life Saver Award at its meeting on Thursday evening.
SVH to Participate in Safety Training Exercise at 1 p.m. Wednesday
At 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, Stormont Vail Health will be participating in a safety training exercise with Shawnee County Emergency Management.
Please know that this exercise will be performed calmly, will not be a force on force exercise, and will not involve any weapons or weapon sound-effects. However, you will hear an overhead page in the hospital around 1 p.m. and may see additional safety personnel outside. The page will begin and end with these words: “THIS IS AN EXERCISE.” We want you to be aware of the training and ask for your help in relaying that information to any patients or visitors who may be concerned.
If you have any questions, please connect with your supervisor. This exercise is not to cause fear. It is to ensure we are always prepared, no matter what the circumstances. Thank you for your help and dedication to keeping our community, patients, and one another safe and healthy.
