Robyn Moran, D.O., Joins Stormont Vail Health Rheumatology

Stormont Vail Health welcomes Dr. Robyn Moran, a board-certified rheumatologist with 10 years of medical experience, including five years specializing in diagnosing and treating autoimmune diseases. She joins our Rheumatology team at Cotton O’Neil Rheumatology, 901 S.W. Garfield Ave., 66606, in Topeka.

To Dr. Moran, education is key. She knows that the relationship between patient and provider is collaborative. When patients feel informed, they are empowered to take charge of their health. “Many patients have never heard of rheumatology until they need it. I strive to educate them about their conditions to empower their involvement in their care,” she said.

Dr. Moran knows that rheumatological conditions can be overwhelming, especially in the “gray zone” where solutions may not be clear. She emphasizes the importance of open communication with patients and other specialists during these times.

“Effective communication across multiple specialties is crucial in rheumatology,” she notes. “At Stormont Vail, having an integrated system makes it easier for us to work together for our patients’ well-being.” To schedule an appointment with Dr. Moran, call (785) 354-5130 or contact your primary care provider for a referral.

Good Catch Awardees Recognized by Board Committee

Stormont Vail Health’s recent Good Catch winners were recognized by the Stormont Vail Board’s Quality and Patient Safety Committee. The Good Catch program focuses on close call or near miss safety events that are identified and corrected by team members, preventing an error or injury. Frontline team members are recognized for helping make Stormont Vail a safer environment for patients, visitors, and team members.

This quarter we recognized the following:

  • September recipient: Chris Benson, Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, was in the breakroom when he smelled smoke. He followed his nose to the refrigerator, pulled it away from the wall and found the outlet was blackened. Chris unplugged the refrigerator and alerted Facilities Maintenance who came and replaced the outlet. In the photo are William Rogers, Rehabilitation Services Supervisor, Dr. Rob Kenagy, President and CEO, Chris, Kathleen Kinsler, Rehabilitation Services Manager, and Alonzo Harrison, QPS Committee Chairman.
  • October recipient: Ty Compton, RN, noted a discrepancy on a patient’s imaging report and notified the patient’s provider. The provider took a second look at the imaging report and ordered further imaging to complete the patient’s assessment.

Congratulations to Chris and Ty. Thank you for your efforts!
