Stormont Vail Health Trainers Take Care of Our Athletes – On and Off the Field
March is National Athletic Training Month and it’s time to celebrate and thank this wonderful team of Stormont Vail athletic trainers. There are five schools where we provide full-time athletic training services as part of our High School Outreach Sports Medicine Program and many other high schools with which we have part-time contracts.
We also have athletic trainers working in our clinics, at Washburn University, and on school game nights. Our certified athletic trainers work to prevent injuries, educate others, and help student athletes get back to the sport they love.
Read this week’s Stormont Vail blog here on stormontvail.org to learn more about these highly-trained and talented individuals. Many of our trainers, from Mike Flynn at Hayden High School to Brad Parry at Washburn Rural High School, are not only our amazing team members, they are integral to supporting and caring for the teams of student athletes they see regularly. Thank you for providing this important service in our community!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
We are feeling lucky in the NICU…lucky to have amazing team members taking care of our littlest patients and lucky to have such loving families to trust us with their newest additions. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit celebrated today with their patients and families by sharing some shamrocks around the NICU. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
March is National Nutrition Month
March is National Nutrition Month and this year’s theme is Fuel for the Future. Eating with sustainability in mind is a tasty way to nourish ourselves during every phase of life and protect the environment.
To learn more about this theme and to explore opportunities to put it into practice, visit www.eatright.org. Let’s also take this time to recognize the wonderful Nutritional Services team that does so much for our patients and team – thank you for keeping our community happy, healthy, and full.
Walk with a Doc in Topeka this Saturday: Dr. Mary Franz
Grab a friend and join us for Walk with a Doc this Saturday, March 18! Meet on the east side of Lee Arena at 9:00 a.m., where we will participate in a quick 5-minute discussion about retirement health with Dr. Mary Franz as well as congratulate her on her own retirement. We will then enjoy a nice walk around Washburn University’s beautiful campus. No registration required to come walk and warm up your muscles!
Certified Nurses Day is March 19th
Every year, on March 19, we get the opportunity to tell Certified Nurses how much we appreciate them. Our Certified Nurses go above and beyond to demonstrate professionalism, competency, and lead best practice in their specialty. Thank you board certified nurses for your commitment to patients and high-quality care.
Remembering Dr. Frisco Morse Day is Tuesday, March 21
Stormont Vail Health team members are invited to remember Dr. Frisco Morse, a member of the hospitalist team for 16 years, who unexpectedly died on Jan. 31, 2023. Several special ways to remember Dr. Morse are planned:
- Tuesday, March 21, has been designated “Remembering Dr. Frisco Morse Day.” Team members are invited to wear a fanny pack in remembrance of Dr. Morse, who was often seen wearing his fanny pack on his hospital rounds.
- View a slide show of photos and written remembrances of Dr. Morse that will be available on SVnet, beginning March 21.
- Consider contributing to a fund Dr. Morse’s family has set up in his memory with the Stormont Vail Foundation. The donations will be used to assist people who are unable to afford medications.
