Manhattan Team Meets at Town Hall
Wednesday was a wonderful day in Manhattan. All of our Stormont Vail team members serving patients in Manhattan came together for an early morning town hall-style meeting. Updates at the inaugural town hall covered a myriad of topics:
- Manhattan campus building construction coming along well with anticipated opening summer 2023.
- The impetus behind the new system organizational structure and how it will promote integration.
- The importance of making every encounter with a patient a meaningful experience.
- Met two members of the first Physician Assistant class starting the new PA program at Kansas State University, which Stormont Vail is supporting through a simulation lab and upcoming clinical experiences for students.
The meeting was topped off with a few team members receiving awards and a visit from two members of Stormont Vail’s Paw Squad – Cheyenne and Charley – and their pet therapy people partners.
“To Your Health” on WIBW-TV Tonight
Dr. Wael Khreiss shares information tonight on the “To Your Health” segment on WIBW-TV about the colon surgical site quality initiative at Stormont Vail Health. Using data analysis to find key contributing factors and surgeon collaboration for change management, our team has been able to reduce colon surgical site infections (SSI). The “To Your Health” segment airs at 10 p.m. on WIBW-TV, Channel 13. The segment will typically repeat at 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. Fridays on 13 News This Morning and be posted on wibw.com.
Meet the A-Team – Our Sports Medicine Specialists
Meet the real “A-Team” – the Stormont Vail Health sports medicine specialists who are featured in a recent blog on the Stormont Vail Health website as well as being featured on Facebook and Twitter. Our Sports Medicine team has received extensive training to ensure they provide the highest possible care. From weekend warriors to college athletes, they work with patients of all ages and skill levels. Don’t be sidelined with an injury.
Thank a Volunteer!
National Volunteer Week is April 17-23 and Stormont Vail Health volunteers are known for always going above and beyond. Please show your appreciation to our volunteers (and to our team members who volunteer in the community) – and thank them during this special week. Our Stormont Vail volunteers and Volunteer Services team are invaluable in helping us serve our patients and community.
May 4 Resiliency Seminars: Mark Your Calendars
Stormont Vail Health is proud to host Sherry Chesak, Ph.D, M.S., R.N. from Mayo Clinic as she will present: “Finding Strength in the Darkest of Times: Evidence-Based Methods for Building Individual and Team Resilience.”
What is burnout? How can you recognize burnout in others? What tools can we use to overcome those feelings? Get those questions answered and more from noon to 1:30 p.m. May 4 in the Pozez Auditorium. You will learn the factors that contribute to medical burnout and its impact, new skills to enhance both individual and team resilience, and reflect on the effectiveness of mindful-based practices to manage daily stress.
The seminar is offered in person to Stormont Vail Health team members and volunteers only. Community clinicians, EMS, and students can participate on Zoom. You can find the link here: https://bit.ly/3r6sL1u
The evening of May 4, Mayo’s Sherry Chesak will join Brian Avila, Laura Kruger, and Ashley Toyne, RN, from Stormont Vail Health on Facebook Live. We are inviting all members of the community to join us on the Stormont Vail Facebook page at 5:30 p.m. for a Q&A. We will encourage you to ask questions throughout the conversation while the panelists discuss characterizing compassion fatigue and the consequences, defining self-compassion, evidence-based techniques that enhance self-compassion every day, and more. Mark your calendars!
We together,
Dr. K
