Sen. Moran Tours Building Blocks II
Sen. Jerry Moran received a tour of the new Building Blocks II child care center Monday at 515 S.W. Horne that will substantially increase the capacity of Stormont Vail Health’s child care services to support team members and their families.
Stormont Vail Health’s Board of Directors approved the capital to fund the expansion earlier this year, demonstrating our commitment to grow access to child care and educational options for children of Stormont Vail team members. Access to safe, affordable child care is not only a family issue, but a workforce issue.
In addition to the expanded space for the child care program, there are plans to extend hours of operation to accommodate our Stormont Vail clinical and support team members who work 12-hour shifts. This will be a unique offering for a childcare center in our state.
Sen. Moran toured the expanded childcare facility with Dr. Rob Kenagy, Tracy O’Rourke, Darlene Stone, Peg Burnette, and Sarah Elsen, Operations Director, Building Blocks. They were also joined by Chad Austin, President and CEO of Kansas Hospital Association.
Once the Horne Street location is completed, the Building Blocks I facility at 620 S.W. Lane will be remodeled. That facility opened in 1993. The Lane location will be for infants through toddlers; with the Horne location for older toddlers through age five, as well as the location for an expanded summer camp program for children to age 12. Once completed, the capacity for child care will increase from 192 children to 321 children.
Stormont Vail Team Recognized at Washburn Homecoming
Stormont Vail Health and the wonderful team of providers and athletic trainers who take care of Washburn University athletes were honored Saturday during the Washburn University Homecoming game.
Five providers and two athletic trainers were recognized during a third quarter announcement: Dr. Hailey Avila, Dr. Matt Bohm, Dr. Brad Poole, Dr. Ryan Tomlins and Dr. Brian Wilson, and trainers Allyssa Mohney and Kolten Schulte. Stormont Vail Health was also presented with a game football signed by all the Washburn players, which was accepted by Peg Burnette, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.
Washburn won the game against the University of Central Oklahoma, 37-9. The Ichabods are now 5-3 on the season.
Dr. Brad Cutting, Cotton O’Neil Clinic Wamego Named “Best”
Brad Cutting, M.D., family medicine provider at the Cotton O’Neil Clinic in Wamego, was recently voted the top doctor in the Wamego Times’ “Best of Times” reader’s choice recognition. In the medical practice category, the Cotton O’Neil Wamego Clinic, 1704 Commercial Circle, also received first place.
We are very proud of the care provided by Wamego providers and team members, and congratulate Dr. Cutting and team on this recognition.
September Person of the Moment: Judy Hamilton
Congratulations to our September Person of the Moment, Judy Hamilton, Clinical Secretary on 7 South.
Stormont Vail Health is all about the “small moments.” While great acts of service and courage are always appreciated and recognized, it’s the small moments that add up and make Stormont Vail the wonderful place that it is.
“Judy is the glue that holds our department together. I don’t have one certain moment in mind for her, but rather a daily occurrence of small moments by her,” said a teammate, “She has transformed our unit and we would be lost without her!”
It is a true testament to the Stormont Vail way that we are able to recognize the successes and importance of all team members, whether patient-facing or not. Congratulations, Judy! Stormont Vail and 7 South are beyond lucky to have you as part of our team.
