Extraordinary Care Award Winner: Charles Davis
“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” – Leo Buscaglia
Charles Davis was hired in 2020 in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic to be a door screener for Stormont Vail Health. He takes great pride in his role and knows what it means to be the first contact that anyone has when entering our doors. He says that these people are his second family and he treats them with love and kindness.
Charles is being honored for the extraordinary care he provides our patients, visitors and team. He has been named the 2022 Stormont Vail Extraordinary Care Award Winner. A video shares how Charles impacts our team and how he supports others in working together to ensure a top quality experience.
Charles recognizes each person as an individual with their own story, who show up, even on the bad days. He reminds us that even though life and work can take a toll on us, we are lucky to be here and have the ability to walk in and out of the doors on our own free will.
Charles has a goal to connect with as many people as possible every morning. He wants to make a positive impact on at least one person’s day, every day he is here. Charles loves to see the smile on people’s faces and that doesn’t stop with the visitors and patients who walk through the doors. He extends this to his peers across the organization.
Charles is a trusted member of Stormont Vail’s Cultural Ambassador team and is included in strategic and vulnerable discussions about the culture at Stormont Vail. He understands how to navigate sensitive situations and ensures confidentiality while also eager to learn more. His input and perspective is a valued voice not only in the committee, but for the organization as a whole. Thank you, Charles, for everything you do to make Stormont Vail a better place. Congratulations on this special award!
Stormont Vail Health Earns Blue Distinction Center Designation for Cardiac Care
Stormont Vail Health has received a Blue Distinction® Center for Cardiac Care designation by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas (BCBSKS) as part of the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program. Blue Distinction Centers are nationally designated providers that meet quality standards and have proven to deliver quality care with safe practices that lead to better health outcomes for patients.
In the United States, one person dies every 34 seconds from a cardiovascular disease, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Blue Distinction Centers for Cardiac Care empower patients with the information they need to choose quality, in-network cardiac care. To receive a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care designation, health care facilities must demonstrate expertise in delivering safe and effective cardiac care for:
- Percutaneous coronary interventions
- Coronary artery bypass graft
- Aortic valve replacement
Congratulations to the Stormont Vail team for this outstanding validation of the care provided to our patients.
Celebrating Patient Safety Awareness Week
“Together we own patient safety and the patient experience. We provide safe, high-quality care with a kind and generous spirit.”
Patient Safety Awareness Week is March 12 – 18. At Stormont Vail Health, we are dedicated to helping all who turn to us. We help the sick heal, the worried find peace, and the healthy stay that way. Our hospitals and clinics are places where every patient should be feel safe.
Our Annual Good Catch Event will take place this week, encouraging all team members to stay alert and identify safety concerns early on, resulting in a “good catch.” The top “catch” will receive a prize and trophy to celebrate their great vigilance and care.
