Dr. Helmbold Talks About Watchman on “To Your Health” Tonight

Learn about the experienced Stormont Vail Health team that has been providing the one-time Watchman implant since 2017 that helps patients reduce atrial fibrillation (also called AFib) stroke risk.

Dr. Alan Helmbold, a specialist in cardiology/electrophysiology, will share how the skilled Stormont Vail team partners with patients for this minimally invasive procedure. We’ll also hear from a patient who has benefitted from the procedure on tonight’s WIBW-TV “To Your Health.”

The segment will air at 10 p.m. on WIBW-TV, Channel 13. The segment will typically repeat at 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. Fridays on 13 News This Morning and be posted on wibw.com. Stormont Vail Health Sponsoring WIBW Job Fair

Tiffany Beyer with the Stormont Vail Talent Acquisition Team will be a guest on the WIBW-TV’s “Red Couch” with News Director Melissa Brunner on July 18 to share information about Stormont Vail jobs. She will provide job recruitment information as a launch to the inaugural WIBW Job Fair that will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 19 at Fairlawn Plaza Mall in Topeka. Stormont Vail Health is the presenting sponsor for the job fair. It is free to attend for anyone looking for employment.

To date there are nearly 40 companies and organizations who will be at the job fair. The Stormont Vail Talent Acquisition Team and hiring managers from across the system will be at the Stormont Vail booth, sharing information about the variety of job openings we have available –  from service techs, MRI tech, RN and LPNs, surgical techs, phlebotomists, patient care technicians/medical assistants, and Rehabilitation Services, Registration, Nutritional Services and Environmental Services team members. Walk with a Doc – Dr. Patrick Raney

Take a walk with Dr. Patrick Raney from 9 to 10 a.m. this Saturday, July 15, and learn more about the importance of men’s health. Dr. Raney will provide some brief remarks prior to the walk that starts on the east side of Lee Arena on the Washburn University campus in Topeka. This doctor-led group is a fun and safe place to hear briefly about an important health topic and enjoy a walk outside with a physician.

Summer Acne Breakouts: Understanding and Combatting

The summer weather has a knack for encouraging severe acne breakouts, but the good news is that there are several ways to combat against acne.  Read this week’s blog on stormontvail.org here to discover the connection between summer sun and acne as well as tips to help anyone reduce their chances of an irritating breakout.

New Clinical Trial for Weight Loss Seeks Participants

The Cotton O’Neil Clinical Research Center is seeking participants for a new clinical trial for weight loss. This study is sponsored by Eli Lilly and is studying the effectiveness of orforglipron on weight loss. Participants must be at least 18 years old, have a BMI of at least 30 or, if their BMI is between 27 – 30, have a weight-related condition (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, or cardiovascular disease). Participants cannot be diagnosed with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes.

The study will take place for 1.5 years for those without prediabetes and 3.5 years for those with prediabetes. All study procedures will be provided at no cost and participants will be compensated for their time.
