2023 Warm and Thankful Celebration and Donation Drive
A little light goes a long way to make dark days brighter. Generosity and support do even more.
Stormont Vail Health’s Warm and Thankful Celebration aims to brighten the dark winter days and support the homeless and unsheltered population in the communities we serve.
This year, we will launch our giving tradition as we turn on the Topeka hospital’s holiday lights and present donations to the Topeka Rescue Mission in the spirit of giving and cheer. This event will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, at the Main Entrance of the Topeka hospital.
A donation bin has been placed near the elevators inside the main lobby of the Topeka hospital to collect essential items. It will be there until Nov. 28. Donated items can include:
- Baby food and formula
- New or gently used winter clothes and sleeping bags
- Personal care and hygiene items
Stormont Vail Cultural Ambassadors will give these contributions to representatives from the Topeka Rescue Mission for distribution at the Nov. 28event.
Other Stormont Vail locations, outside Topeka, are also participating in Warm and Thankful and collecting donations. They have the option of donating the items to an organization in their home community or providing donated items to the Topeka Rescue Mission.
In Emporia, the Community Benefit Committee is collecting diapers, baby food and formula that will be provided to Shiloh / Family Life Services. There are collection boxes on all three floors of the Emporia clinic.
Thank you to all Stormont Vail team members for your generous support to our communities through the Warm and Thankful Celebration and many other avenues during the upcoming holiday season.
“To Your Health” on WIBW-TV Tonight
Annie Buckland, Trauma Prevention Coordinator, will discuss the injury prevention programs provided by Stormont Vail Health, including fall prevention, firearm safety and child injury prevention on tonight’s WIBW “To Your Health.” The segment will air at 10 p.m. on WIBW-TV, Channel 13. The segment will typically repeat at 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. Fridays on 13 News This Morning and be posted on wibw.com.
Congratulations to Stormont Vail Board Member
Congratulations to Pamela Johnson-Betts for being honored as a Woman Who’s Changed the Heart of the City 2023 at an event today at The Beacon. Pamela is a long-time member of the Stormont Vail Health Board of Directors and the executive director of the Topeka Public Schools Foundation. The recognition event is part of the Urban Ministry Institute of Topeka’s effort to equip incarcerated women when they return to communities and to assist churches in receiving returning citizens and incorporating them into the family and local ministries.
Carmen Raines, Chaplain, Named October Person of the Moment
Professional chaplains are unique members of healthcare teams who bridge the gap between patients’ physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. As Chaplain Carmen Raines demonstrated at the Topeka hospital, spiritual care providers are also vital advocates for patients’ wishes, particularly in their most vulnerable moments.
Carmen received a Person of the Moment nomination for helping the spouse of a critical care patient reach the Topeka Campus hospital from Junction City so she could be with her husband of 49 years during his final moments of life.
We appreciate everything you do and congratulate you for your well-deserved recognition as October’s Person of the Moment!
We together,
Dr. Kenagy
