Leadership Rounding Results in Connections, Safety Discussions
The first week of Leadership Rounding by Operating Committee members already has resulted in positive connections. Team members were candid and open about concerns and suggestions to help make our organization safer, more accessible and patient friendly. Operating Committee members visited a number of clinics across the system as well as departments within the Topeka hospital.
On coming Fridays, Operating Committee will fan out across the system to listen to team members about their work experiences and ideas for improvements. Several areas visited this past Friday mentioned that staffing levels have improved. Numerous ideas to improve safety were shared – from providing handrails for patients in clinic areas to equipment needs that can result in timely patient care. All ideas will be funneled to the appropriate “owners” to determine if they are feasible and attainable.
We want to express gratitude to team members taking the time from their busy schedules to share their stories and discuss ways we can improve safety and processes. The rounding is part of our strategic initiative to improve safety and encourage and engage team members to speak up if they have concerns or suggestions. Each one of us has responsibility to ensure we have a safe and respectful work environment. If the first week of Listening and Engagements Rounds is any indication, we are off to a great start.
Dr. Gernon and Walk with a Doc to be Featured on WIBW-TV
Stormont Vail Health cardiologist Dr. Craig Gernon will share information about how walking can be important to your health on WIBW-TV’s “To Your Health” segment at 10 a.m. tonight. Dr. Gernon’s interview is a preview of information he will share at July’s Walk with a Doc event – this Saturday at Washburn University.
Dr. Gernon says walking can improve health – mental and physical health, including heart health. He also said that with the recent heat and humidity, it is important to listen to your body and stop when you feel like you’ve done enough physical activity.
- Dr. Gernon’s To Your Health interview will air at 10 p.m. on WIBW-TV, Channel 13. The segment will typically repeat at 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. Fridays on 13 News This Morning and be posted on wibw.com.
- To participate in the community Walk with a Doc with Dr. Gernon, join the walking group at 9 a.m. Saturday on the east side of Lee Arena at Washburn University. The event is free and all are welcome to walk to better health.
Stormont Vail Team Enjoys Day at the K
More than 1,500 Stormont Vail team members and their families and friends, enjoyed a day at a Royals game June 30. Several team members were able to participate in the pregame “Group of the Game” activity on the field. In addition to Dr. Kenagy, they included:
- Shana Bennett, CV Rad Tech, Cath Lab
- Heather Stanley, LPN, Urish ExpressCare
- Maria Medina-Diaz, PCT, 6 North
The activity generated an opportunity for our team to relax and have some fun. Stormont Vail is working with the Royals to have two more games with Stormont Vail discounted tickets. Those will be the Aug. 24 Royals vs. Phillies game, and the last game of the season on Sept. 22 when the Royals take on the Giants. Tickets will be 20 percent off for Stormont Vail team members. More information and a link to purchase tickets will be available soon.
