Jonathon Salava, M.D., Joins Stormont Vail’s Orthopedic Surgery Team

Stormont Vail Health proudly welcomes Dr. Jonathon Salava, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in minimally-invasive surgery and knee and hip replacement, to the Orthopedic Surgery team. Dr. Salava will practice at the Stormont Vail Hospital, 1500 S.W. 10th Ave., and the Stormont Vail Single-Day Surgery Center at Kanza Park, 2660 S.W. 3rd St., Topeka.

Dr. Salava understands the importance of individualized care and tailors his methods to each patient’s needs. While his approach and treatment vary from patient to patient, his goal remains the same: restoring quality of life through improved function – an intention that drove him to his specialty.

“Helping others inspired me to become a doctor, and when I started medical school training, I learned how helpful orthopedic surgeons could be for patients,” Dr. Salava said. “We’re not just managing chronic problems; we’re making life-changing decisions and providing life-changing treatments with options to improve patients’ function and restore their quality of life. That’s what orthopedic surgery is all about.”

After earning his medical degree at The University of Kansas School of Medicine, Dr. Salava finished his residency in orthopedic surgery at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia. He then completed OrthoCarolina Hip and Knee Center’s Adult Joint Reconstructive Fellowship program in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he honed his skills in advanced joint replacement techniques.

Now, as Stormont Vail’s newest orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Salava is eager to help patients reach their fullest potential alongside a well-established team of experts.

Congratulations, Perlita Reyes, June Person of the Moment

Patient care technicians (PCTs) work behind the scenes to oversee the details that can make all the difference for patients. They work closely with nursing teams to ensure patients are cared for and comfortable.

Putting patients at ease is easier said than done. For this reason, PCTs need communication skills, patience, and compassion – all of which describe Perlita Reyes, a PCT at Stormont Vail’s Topeka

Emergency Department. Perlita embodies our first tenet: “Together, we treat every patient, visitor, and team member with compassion and dignity.”

Perlita’s commitment to patients not only exemplifies the crucial role of PCTs in our organization but also underscores the vital importance of culturally competent care delivery. This recognition reflects the need for such care. For this reason, we proudly recognize her as our June Person of the Moment.

Take a moment to celebrate her selfless support and exceptional character.
