Sharing is Caring, Especially Around a Good Meal

When we take time away from our busy schedules – even if just for a few minutes – it gives us the opportunity to reconnect, to share a moment or two to reflect about our day. This was the case for me and I hope for many of you last week when we served holiday meals across the system.

In total, there were 3,813 team members who enjoyed a nice meal at across the system. That’s a lot of meals, and a lot of time to connect with our peers.

Chuck Myers, Department Assistant and Cultural Ambassador, also shared a photo of the lunch set up at the Gage Pediatrics Gage Clinic, where Bud Lewis, Registrar (left), Nancy Schoenfeld, LPN (center), and Chelsie Moore, CNM (right) helped out. Everyone enjoyed the lunch.

Some 25 staff members , including Cultural Ambassadors, helped deliver meals across the system; likewise, many members of leadership greeted team members and helped serve food. Meals were enjoyed at our  Topeka and Flint Hills hospitals and all other work locations

Our Nutritional Services’ team members prepared the wonderful food on the menu. All of these opportunities to share our skills and talents with others, to share our time to listen and reflect, are important, especially at this time of the year. That’s the power of our team.

I personally enjoyed opportunities to visit with team members at several of the meals. At the Topeka hospital lunch, a NICU group quizzed me about writing this communication. I shared that writing poetry is my favorite. Emily Anzek, a NICU RN, then challenged me to write a 17-syllable haiku. So, here it is Emily, and it’s about our Stormont Vail team.

Teamwork ‘round the clock
Committed, safe, top quality
Caring hands for all.

We together,
Dr. Kenagy

PS: The poet in this case is Anita Fry, and I share the sentiments wholeheartedly.  Happy Holidays.
