Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
Plastic surgery encompasses two types of surgeries — reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery.
Cosmetic Surgery
Cosmetic procedures are typically done electively rather than out of necessity. This means they are often not covered by insurance.
Cosmetic procedures are designed to help improve the appearance of your body and can boost your confidence. They can involve surgical or non-surgical approaches.
Reconstructive Surgery
This type of plastic surgery does more than just improve appearance. For example, some women who have had a breast removed during cancer treatment may find wearing a bra difficult. This can be addressed with breast reconstruction surgery.
In another instance, pain and numbness caused by carpal tunnel syndrome can affect a person’s ability to use their hands. Reconstructive surgery can help patients regain hand function.
