Stormont Vail Foundation Announces Enhancements to NICUThanks to Local Donors
The Stormont Vail Foundation is proud to announce upgrades to the Stormont Vail Health Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Mother & Baby Department, reinforcing its commitment to providing exceptional care for newborns. The announcement was made today during a special event in celebration of team members and local donors, including Advisors Excel, who made the enhancements possible.
As Topeka’s only Level III NICU approaches its 20th anniversary in its current space, these enhancements will ensure that the facility continues to meet the critical needs of the approximately 400 infants it serves each year. The upgrades include the addition of state-of-the-art infant isolettes, also known as carestations, new recliners for mothers and families, and a cutting-edge training simulator to ensure medical teams remain at the forefront of neonatal care.
A unique addition was also gifted to the NICU in the form of a custom mural created by Advisors Excel Creative Director, Kevin Johnston, which is displayed in the hallway leading to the unit. This vibrant artwork, featuring playful baby animals against a Kansas landscape, is designed to uplift the spirits of all who enter and exit the NICU, providing a sense of comfort and hope during a challenging time.
“Thanks to Advisor’s Excel, our state-of-the-art NICU will remain equipped to continue to provide life-saving care to the 400 premature and seriously ill newborns we serve each year,” said Amy Burns, president and executive director of the Stormont Vail Foundation. “Their support also aids in the healing and comfort a mother and family needs post-delivery.”
The significant investments from Advisors Excel and other local donors underscores their relationships with Stormont Vail and their shared commitment to improving the health of our community.
Alison Wilson, administrative director for women and children services at Stormont Vail expressed gratitude: “On behalf of the entire NICU team, thank you to our generous donors and the Stormont Vail Foundation for helping us to provide not just medical care, but also hope and healing to families during one of the most challenging times of their lives. We’re thankful for the new resources. We know the mural will bring happiness and inspire hope to patients, families, and team members for many generations to come.”
