Debra Clayton Recognized at Stormont Vail Board Meeting

Stormont Vail Health board member Debra Clayton was honored at a recent board meeting for her 10 years of distinguished service on the Board of Directors and wished a happy retirement from the board. Mark Ruelle, Chairman of the Board offered appreciation to Debra on behalf of the board.

Debra joined the board in January 2015, and served as chair of the Strategy & Finance Committee from 2018 to 2019, as well as a member of the Quality & Patient Safety Committee, Executive & Physician Compensation Committee, Audit Committee and Finance & Audit Committee. Thank you to Debra for her exemplary service to Stormont Vail.

We Celebrate CoraLeigh Stover: 2024 December Person of the Moment

Recently, a patient at our Heart Center in Topeka developed chest pains after a stress test. They reported symptoms to CoraLeigh Stover,  a pre-registration representative, who jumped into action. She called the resource nurse, who advised her to call American Medical Response (AMR).

While waiting for AMR, the patient underwent an electrocardiogram (EKG), which showed that they were having a myocardial infarction (heart attack). When AMR arrived, CoraLeigh helped direct them to the patient’s room. AMR transported the patient from the Heart Center to the Emergency Department, where a balloon was successfully placed within 24 minutes to treat a 100% blocked right artery.

Thanks to CoraLeigh, the patient received timely, lifesaving care when seconds mattered most. Her swift actions demonstrate our third tenet: “Together, we own patient safety and the patient experience. We provide safe, high-quality care with a kind and generous spirit.”

Stormont Vail Team Members Join Gov. Kelly for National Blood Donor Month

Last week, team members Brian Aeschliman, BSN, RN, CEN, TCRN, Paramedic, Trauma Outreach and  Education Coordinator, and Carrie Easley, MSTM, MLS (ASCP) SBBcm , Laboratory Manager, Quality and Transfusion Safety, had the privilege to join Gov. Laura Kelly at a press conference celebrating the importance of blood donation. Gov. Kelly also signed a proclamation recognizing January as National Blood Donor month. Watch here.

Community Blood Center organized the event. CBC provides Stormont Vail Health with blood supplies, and supplies 90% of the blood used across Kansas. The press conference coincided with the 55th annual Governor’s Blood Drive at the Capitol.

Congratulations to Chris Buesing and Mary Martell
