Stormont Vail Health Honored with Distinguished Corporate Citizen Award

Stormont Vail Health was presented the Distinguished Corporate Citizen Award from the Jayhawk Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, Wednesday night. The award was presented to Dr. Rob Kenagy, President and CEO, by Tim O’Shea, President of the Jayhawk Area Council board.

In addition, camperships in Stormont Vail’s name will be given to benefit scouts in need during the 2025 camping season of the council.

The Distinguished Citizen Award honors individuals, families and organizations for their efforts in making a distinct difference in the fabric of our community. The honoree’s community involvement touches lives and improves the quality of life for all.

Along with Stormont Vail Health being awarded the Corporate Citizen Award, Allan Towle, chairman of Fidelity State Bank and Trust Co., and an active community volunteer, was also awarded the Distinguished Citizen Award.

Veronica Diedrich, D.O., Joins Emergency Medicine Department

Stormont Vail Health is excited to announce the newest addition to our Emergency Department team, Dr. Veronica Diedrich, D.O., a dedicated physician. Her knowledge and compassionate care will significantly enhance patient care at the Stormont Vail Emergency Department at 1500 S.W. 10th Ave., Topeka.

Originally from Wisconsin, Dr. Diedrich’s innate curiosity and interest in science fueled her path to medicine. Her father, an engineer who instilled a passion for science in her and her siblings, significantly inspired her journey. This background, combined with firsthand exposure to patient care as a scribe while pursuing a bachelor of science at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, solidified Dr. Diedrich’s decision to become an Emergency Medicine specialist.

With a philosophy centered around making each patient’s visit as comfortable and informative as possible, Dr. Diedrich’s approach to care is deeply personal and emphasizes clear communication. Her dedication to patient comfort and trust demonstrates her commitment to supporting patients and their loved ones in their most vulnerable moments.

“I break down complex medical jargon into relatable terms with everyday metaphors so patients and their families fully understand their care plan,” Dr. Diedrich said. “I just try to make their experience in the E.R. a little easier.”

Dr. Diedrich earned her doctorate in osteopathic medicine at Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine of Midwestern University. She rounded her training as a resident in Emergency Medicine at the University Health Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Welcome, Dr. Diedrich!

Stormont Vail Health Flint Hills Campus Secures Mobile CT Unit

Timely response to care for the community and teamwork at the Stormont Vail Health Flint Hills Campus resulted in a mobile computed tomography (CT) unit being installed today at the hospital and rural health clinic to provide CT scans for patients until the hospital CT scanner can be replaced.

The Stormont Vail team members at the Flint Hills Campus quickly went into action to develop a plan after the hospital CT scanner was damaged by a water leak earlier in the month. CT scanners play a crucial role in medicine and especially in hospitals, by providing detailed images of inside the body, enabling accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.

A plan for the mobile CT unit required a multi-department approach. The IT department installed new wiring for the unit to access, the facilities department constructed a walkthrough tunnel from the building to where the unit would be parked, and administration secured the mobile unit for use.

While waiting for the mobile CT to arrive, patients with appointments for outpatient CT scans were temporarily shifted to Stormont Vail’s Manhattan Campus instead of postponing or driving to a location outside of the region. The teams at Flint Hills Campus and Manhattan Campus support the region and work diligently to find solutions that keep patient care close to home.
