February “Walk with a Doc” with Dr. Chen Hoe Chow
Join Dr. Chen Hoe Chow, a cardiologist at the Stormont Vail Topeka Campus, for answers and suggestions on lowering your heart disease risk at the February Walk with a Doc program.
The Stormont Vail Health-sponsored event promotes health and wellness through walking. The walk with Dr. Chow will be 9 to 10 a.m. this Saturday. The group will meet at the east side of Lee Arena, Washburn University. If the weather is too cold, the walk will take place inside Lee Arena. The walk is free and open to everyone, with no registration needed.
Walkers are invited to wear red to show support and raise awareness about heart disease. February is Heart Month. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S., but the good news is that simple activities, like walking, can help prevent it. That makes this month’s Walk with a Doc event a great chance to take charge of your health and learn how to protect your heart.
Dr. Vaglio’s Ska Punk Band Has Heartwarming Purpose for Saturday Event
Dr. Joe Vaglio and his ska punk party band have a heartwarming purpose to raise funds for patient assistance and first responders through the “Broken Heart Ball” this Saturday in Topeka. Called The Dead Betty’s, the band will be donating a portion of proceeds from the event to the Stormont Vail Foundation patient assistance fund and the 10-33 Foundation, which aids current and former first responders, military personnel and mental health professionals.
The Broken Heart Ball will be 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Happy Basset Barrel House, 510 S.W. 49th Street, Topeka. Cover charge is $5.
Dr. Vaglio, a practicing cardiac electrophysiologist at the Cotton O’Neil Heart Center, has a passion for keeping hearts healthy in his regular job. After hours he practices his love of music with his musical ensemble of 11 pieces and a full horn section. Dr. Vaglio is a saxophone player who studied music in college. What better way than to share his talents than at “The Dead Betty’s Broken Heart Ball” to benefit others.
The Dead Betty’s is made up of an eclectic group of professionals, artists and college students from Lawrence, Topeka and Kansas City, united by their love of music.
Dr. Vaglio will share more about how his music and medicine intersect – on tonight’s WIBW-TV “To Your Health” segment. The segment airs at 10 p.m. on WIBW-TV, Channel 13. The segment typically repeats at 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. Fridays on 13 News This Morning and is posted on wibw.com.
We together,
Dr. Kenagy
