Person of the Moment: Sally Simmons, RN, Carbondale Clinic
Congratulations to Stormont Vail Health team member Sally Simmons for being recognized as the January Person of the Moment. Sally is being honored for her exceptional professionalism and quick thinking during a WebEx call with a colleague who was working remotely.
As the two talked, it became clear to Sally, an RN at our Carbondale Clinic, that her coworker was experiencing an active stroke. Without hesitation, Sally alerted her nurse manager, who quickly arranged for an ambulance dispatch to her colleague’s home.
Sally’s swift actions were crucial and potentially life-saving. This incident is a powerful reminder of the impact we can have on each other’s lives, even from a distance.Thank you, Sally, for your exemplary response and dedication to your colleagues!
Voice & Value: Employee Assistance Plan Always Ready to Help
Did you know we offer every team member, provider, and anyone living in your household free access to an EAP? The EAP, or Employee Assistance Plan, is a benefit Stormont Vail provides for you and your household that is available 24/7.
What does the EAP offer? Stormont Vail Health contracts with bhs, an external vendor, to provide free, confidential, in-the-moment assistance to help with personal or professional problems that may impact work or family responsibilities. You have unlimited, 24-hour access to these resources. The EAP can be accessed via phone or text, the mobile app, or online. Care coordinators and clinicians are available to assist you around the clock, seven days a week in areas such as:
- Relationships – with co-workers, family, friends, domestic violence, supervisors, etc.
- Transitions – birth, death, divorce, illness, marriage, retirement
- Risks – anger, anxiety, burnout, depression, substance abuse, suicidal thoughts
- Challenges – conflict, grief, financial, legal, stress, trauma, work-life balance
Our program offers up to 8 sessions (in-person, telephonic, or video) per episode at no cost to you. Additionally, you have access to the Mybhs website portal which provides tools, resources, and trainings on topics ranging from emotional well-being, crisis, relationships, legal, personal growth, financial, resilience and more. There are webinars, self-paced courses, assessment tools, free legal forms and financial calculators.

Your name, data and use of the program are not shared with Stormont Vail.
